- Toast the bread and let it cool.
- Spread thickly all over with cream cheese (or butter).
- Spread with jam but leave out the top left corner.
- Fill the corner with the halved blueberries to make the blue & stars section of the American flag.
- Use the banana slices, halved, to make the stripes.
- I used drinking straws to make poles for my 'flags' to serve.
- Try using other fruits to make the flags of other countries! France is easy using blueberries, banana and strawberries. For Italy try kiwi fruit and cantaloupe or mango. Other jams or marmalades are great background colours and cream cheese can be coloured with food dye for awkward colours like black. Kids have great fun learning with food!.
